In recognition of European Day on May 9, a delegation from the European Union (EU) and the embassies of EU member states in Cambodia visited Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC). The delegation provided an overview of EU history, funding and scholarships offered by EU members.
PUC has been selected to host this event every year, and this year again, it had the honor to welcome Mrs. Jana Gasparikova, Charge d’ affaires for the embassy of the Czech Republic.
Dr. Sin Meng Srun, Vice president for Academic affairs, warmly welcomed Mrs. Gasparikova. He addressed a bit of the history of the EU in Cambodia and its support in the areas of education, agriculture, and good governance and administration reform.
Mrs. Jana Gasparikova added that Cambodia and the Czech Republic have had a long relationship, going back to the time of King Norodom Sihanouk. Due to political and economic problems in recent history, both countries were estranged for a time. Now relations have been renewed and strengthened through funding and other support, especially concerning higher education.
