The visit of Ubonratchathani University to PUC

Delegates from Ubonratchathani University, Thailand visited Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC) to discuss co-operation between the two universities to strengthen Higher Education in ASEAN and to seek strategies to promote teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language.

Prof. Mak Vann, Senior Vice President in charge of the Faculty of Business and Economics, and Faculty of Tourism & Hospitality Management and Entrepreneurship, welcomed the delegates to PUC, stating “PUC is pleased to have your visit. We are glad to share our experience in leading a university to success; especially in teaching English,”

PUC operates 500 classes per day, divided into three shifts: morning, afternoon, and evening. “We offer English as a medium of instruction. Students are taught by both experienced skilled native-language teachers and Khmer teachers,” said Prof. Kieng Rotana, Vice President for University Relations & StudentAffairs. Mr. Hem Bonarin, Associate Dean, Academic Program Office added that as a higher education institution, PUC uses only English to communicate. Hence, it is ready to welcome the coming of ASEAN integration.

In closing remarks, Associate Professor, Dr. Sommai Chinnak,project head and chair of the Mekong Regional Studies Program (MA.), Faculty of Liberal Arts, Ubonratchathani University, said “PUC is our idol university, the best higher education institution from which we shall learn.” Dr. Sommai Chinnak, added, “We welcome Cambodian skilled workers to Thailand; especially in the field of English education.”
