On April 27, 2015, two delegates from East Carolina University visited Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia to explore possibilities to do join projects on Global Understanding course including Global leadership, Global English, Global music, global tourism courses, guest lecture exchange, and collaborative research.
Global Understanding course is an online distance course to prepare students to a global society.
Students not only receive knowledge and skills necessary for their learning, but also they get to know various cultures of other learners, which promotes communication network better. According to the survey conducted in the United States there is only 4 percent of U.S college students study abroad. Hence, in 2003 Global Partner in Education (GPE) was made.
Dr. Jami Leibowitz, Director, Global Academic Initiatives said that GPE’s mission was to collaborate and unite students from all around the world in order they become culturally tolerant and aware world citizens who can successfully live and work together in a global community.
However, it requires students strong commitment, teacher assistance and good technology.
After two hours discussion, both universities agreed to make the course happened. There will be a next visit in the near future between the two universities for the signing of the agreement.
