“Animosity can be eradicated by its opposite which is pure love, patience, forgiveness and so on. Animosity cannot be eradicated by animosity. Violence is ceased by non-violence. Violence is never ceased by violence. Hatred is never ceased by hatred. Through pure love only, it can be ceased. This is the eternal law.” This is the teaching of the Lord Buddha, in which most Cambodian people believe.
On February 6, 2015, PUC had the great honor to host the Most Venerable Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Nyanissara, Chancellor Sayadaw, Sitagu Buddhist International University, Mayanmar; Honorary Professor at the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University; Chairman of International Theravada Buddhist Universities, and a founder and Chairman of the Theravada Dharma Society of America.
Accompanying Most Venerable Dr. Ashin Nyanissara was Samdech Preah Maha Ariyavamsa Sao Chanthol, Vice Inspector General of Buddhist Education of the Kingdom of Cambodia; H.E. U Cho Htun Aung, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; H.E Veng Serey Vuth, Chairman of the PUC board of trustees; and Dr. Kol Pheng, PUC president.
After giving a brief history of PUC, Dr. Kol Pheng expressed his profound gratitude, respect and admiration to Most Venerable Dr. Ashin Nanissara who helps the world with his teachings of peace, education, loving-kindness and compassion.
In recognition of his generous, heroic and exemplary contributions to humanity in Buddhist education, peace building, health care, and to the well-being of people, and by virtue of the authority granted by the Royal Government of Cambodia and the university bylaws, the Board of Trustees of PUC solemnly presented to Most Venerable Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Nyanissara the honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities.
“Myanmar and Cambodia are two countries in the region that share similar traditions and culture. By this event today, both countries will enhance the relationship between their people for the present and the future,” said H.E. U Cho Htun Aung, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
