Violence Against Women (VAW) is not a new issue in today’s society. It has been a challenging issuefor a long time, and whichneeds to be discussed in order to find way to end it.

Today, UN Women Cambodia, together with Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia, arranged a presentation titled16 days campaign to end violence against women.

“Violence against women is not just done within 16 days. It needs more time and effort to make it happen and the choice to end violence against women starts with you, me and all of us,” said ProfessorKiengRotana, Vice President of Student Affairs.

Violence against women is defined as any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in physical, sexual, economical or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life” (UN 1995; So, Kim, &Doung 2013) .

Article 45 of Discrimination Against Womenstates that all forms of discrimination against women shall be abolished and exploitation of women in employment shall be prohibited in marriage and matters of family.Any acts of domestic violence that are considered as criminal offences shall be punished under the penal law in effect. (Ministry of Women Affairs Kingdom of Cambodia 2006: 11)
