Yesterday morning delegates from the Handicap International Organization visited Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia to discuss the  possibility of developinga course of road safety in the university curriculum.

The road safety course is an international course developed by Delft University of Technology and SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research. This post graduate course is targeted at road safety professionals from Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). The course takes a period of two weeks, which is about 75 hours. It is facilitated by the Foundation of Post Graduate Education (PAO). Professor Fred Wegman of the Faculty of Civil Engineering is responsible for the content of the course and the selection of the lecturer.

The international road safety course was given successfully in 2012 and 2013 and received high evaluation marks. A continuation of the course in 2014 is being prepared. Funds are available to provide a limited number of scholarships.

“We are here to see how the course is developed locally in Cambodia at PUC,” said Mr. Paul Wesemann, managing director of Foundation Road Safety for All.

In cooperation with experts of Handicap International in Cambodia in 2010, Twinning P roject Netherlands-Cambodia has been supporting the Cambodian road safety authorities in facilitating workshop, monitoring of safety performance, sustaining safety, funding of road safety measures and cost- benefit analyses.

Handicap International is anon- governmental organization created in 1982. The organization is managing various programs in the area of road safety, maternal and infant health, physical rehabilitation, social and economic insertion and the fight against landmines.
