In order to expand students’ knowledge of the European Union (EU), PUC was very honored and privileged on May 7, 2013 to host the Ambassador of the European Union to the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E Jean-Francois Cautain for a visit and talk. at Srey Dim Conference Hall, on the PUC South Campus.
More than 500 participants, including PUC faculty, staff, and students, attended the talk. . .
In his opening remarks,Dr. Chea San Chanthan, Chancellor of Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia, noted PUC’s role as an institutional regional coordinator for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, which is the EU’s premier scholarship program. “Under the European Union, several of our PUC faculty members, staff, and students have received this scholarship grant”, he mentioned.
EU day has been celebrated every year for the past several years at PUC. Since 1990, the EU has been quite active in Cambodia as a development partner. mainly in the areas of human rights, democracy, gender, and development.
Ambassador Cautain then talked about the history of the European Union in the 27 member states and the development aid which the EU has been providing. He also stated that there will be more job opportunities to the people in ASEAN due to more investment from EU countries.
During the question and answer session that followed, students asked many interesting questions regarding education, economic development, human rights and youth in Cambodia.
